Bear Mountain Inn
The Bear Mountain Inn is the historic stone-and-timber lodge at the heart of Bear Mountain State Park, built in 1915 on a plateau above Hessian Lake. It has 15 guest rooms, Restaurant 1915 and the Hiker's Café, and it is the check-in point for two more places to stay: the 24-room Overlook Lodge, higher on the mountain, and the four Stone Cottages by the lake. Room rates include parking for one vehicle.

Three Places to Stay
The historic Inn
The Inn has 15 rooms and suites. The Palisades Parks Conservancy notes that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It stands at the foot of Bear Mountain, on the Appalachian Trail, a few steps from Hessian Lake, the merry-go-round and the ice rink.
Overlook Lodge
Overlook Lodge has 24 rooms and sits about 2 miles from the Inn, higher on the mountain. Its common area has a balcony with views of the Hudson River and Hessian Lake, and a seasonal fire in the lobby. It is also the only place with pet-friendly rooms (limited; see the Inn's pet policy).
The Stone Cottages
Four stone cottages stand close to the Inn, each with six hotel rooms, a porch over the lake, and a shared living room with a wood-burning fireplace. You can book one room or a whole cottage, and every cottage is ADA accessible.
Checking In
Check-in for all three is at the historic Inn, 99 Service Road, Tomkins Cove, NY 10986. On busy days there can be a line of cars at the park entrance and the lots can close when full; the Inn suggests bringing your reservation confirmation to show park police. One vehicle is included in the room rate. Breakfast is not included, but the Hiker's Café sells grab-and-go food.
Eating at the Inn
- Restaurant 1915: lunch and dinner daily from noon, with dinner from 4 p.m.; bar and deck later on Thursday to Saturday. Afternoon tea runs Monday to Thursday, 1 to 3 p.m.

You do not have to stay at the Inn to eat there, and the Palisades Parks Conservancy notes the Inn has public restrooms.
Things to Do From the Inn
- Walk the 1.5-mile paved loop round Hessian Lake, which starts and ends next to the Inn.
- Climb to Perkins Memorial Tower on the Major Welch Trail, which begins behind the Inn.
- Visit Trailside Museums & Zoo, about a 20-minute walk.
- Ride the merry-go-round, skate at the rink in winter, or rent a pedal boat in summer.
- Spa: the Inn operates a spa; book through the Inn.
The Inn also hosts weddings, corporate events and banquets, and on Wednesdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day a car show often takes over the lot, weather permitting.
Getting There
The Inn is inside Bear Mountain State Park; follow the park's driving directions to the lots by Hessian Lake. Without a car, Coach USA buses from Port Authority stop at the Bear Mountain Inn. The Inn warns that Uber is not available locally and there is no shuttle, so plan a taxi for station transfers.
Good to Know
- The pool is public and not next to the lodging; it is run by the state park.
- Weekday deals: the Inn ran a 15% weekday discount in 2026 (April 1 to November 30).
- Fall weekends book up; October is when searches for the Inn peak.
